| Opened in 1829 as a combination of court room, accommodation for judges, and administrative centre for the county of Radnorshire. The total building cost was just over £7,000 (about the cost of just one carpet during restoration work!) It has been restored to its colour scheme of 1865, when it was painted in yellow ochre and brown with 'Carson’s Anti-Corrosive Paint’. The colours have been matched from samples surviving beneath later finishes. The stone-coloured columns are in fact cast iron, much cheaper than real stone - a true penny-pinching exercise!
