We recommend you leave at least one and a half hours for your visit.

* We know that everyone is having a hard time in the current financial climate. We'd like to help you on your visit to us by bringing down the admission prices for kids. Under 5s are free and up to 16yrs , or in full time education, have been reduced from £3.95 to £3.50.

Please note that we do not take credit or debit cards. Cheques are fine. We're sorry for any inconvenience this causes, but as a small charity, it is a difficult service to provide.  If you are planning to spend time in town, it is worth noting that most of the small shops also only take cash or cheques. There is a cashpoint at the HSBC bank  just around the corner from us, on Hereford Street.

Strange But True

  • list arrowHow did Victorians try out a new invention?

    Test it on the servants of course! That's what happened in 1860 at The Judge's Lodging, when gas lighting was put into the basement and not the Judge's rooms. They wanted to see if they got sick from the fumes. The servants were fine - that's why we got the lights working again.
